Davis is the least typical town on our list and the work here reflects that. UC Davis drives a large share of it: research-facility construction, campus events, Picnic Day, the move-in weekends and a steady run of departmental and agricultural field work out on the university land. Campus jobs come with a procurement process and a set of access rules, and both are manageable if they are started early. What does not work on campus is a same-day call, because getting a truck to the right place at the right hour needs to be arranged with somebody rather than improvised.

The farming county around the city is the other half. Yolo County agriculture means field crews, harvest labor, orchard and vineyard work, and processing sites that sit a long way from anything plumbed. Those placements are genuinely remote by our standards — dirt access roads, no water, no power, and a crew that moves as the work moves. Field sanitation is also the one part of this business with its own body of regulation: a crew working a field needs a unit within a reasonable walking distance, it needs potable water and it needs a portable sink rather than a bottle of gel. We supply that combination as one order because it is legally one requirement.

In the city itself, Davis is more design-conscious than most places we work and the tree canopy is not decorative — it is policy. A unit under a protected tree, or a truck that needs to swing a boom through a canopy to reach one, is a problem that is far easier to solve at the quoting stage. We look at the approach as much as the pad when we walk a Davis site. Bike infrastructure matters too: a unit placed where it narrows a bike lane will generate a complaint in Davis faster than anywhere else in the region, and it deserves the thought.

Event work here skews toward the university calendar and the farmers market. Picnic Day, the Whole Earth Festival, graduation weekends and the run of spring events all need real capacity in a short window, and they all take place somewhere a truck has to be routed carefully. For the larger ones we will bring a restroom trailer for the main site and standard units for the perimeter, which is both cheaper and better than trying to do it all with one or the other.

Construction in Davis is mostly infill, campus-adjacent and multifamily, with a steady flow of remodels in the older neighborhoods, most of it ordered as construction restrooms on a monthly rate. Infill lots are tight, and on a tight lot the placement question is genuinely constrained rather than merely inconvenient. The honest answer is sometimes that a standard unit will not fit where you want it and a different unit will, and on the multifamily and campus work an ADA portable restroom has to be part of the count from day one. We would rather say that up front than deliver something that ends up in the wrong place.

Davis and Yolo County both require an encroachment permit for anything in the public right-of-way, and the city is reasonably quick about it. Private property, private land and the university are each their own process.
